The Bridesmaid is the second book in Beverly Lewis’s Home to Hickory Hollow Series, and she does a wonderful job of transporting the reader to Amish country.
One of the things I like best about Beverly Lewis is she deals with the positives and negatives of the Amish lifestyle. Many of the restrictions her Amish characters face become realistic parts of her stories. For example, in The Bridesmaid, the main character Joanna must reconcile her love for writing fiction with the restrictions in her church.
The other strength of this book is the important spiritual lesson Joanna learns about trusting God with her love life. A subplot about Joanna’s great-aunt reinforces this important truth and adds depth to the story.
